In No More Mr. Nice Guy, I state that groups are the most effective tool I know to help men break free from the Nice Guy Syndrome.
I did the majority of my own personal recovery in men’s therapy groups and 12 step groups. In have led men’s groups for over 20 years, at times offering five groups a week. Even though I no longer maintain a local private practice, I still lead small group workshops and offer an online support group. I believe in the power of groups.
There are a multitude of reasons why groups are powerful tools of transformation for Nice Guys.
Groups provide a safe place for men to reveal themselves and release their toxic shame.
Groups provide the ideal environment to help men realize that they are not unique or alone and see first-hand that other men experience similar problems and issues.
Since most Nice Guys are disconnected from other men, groups provide a great place to connect with guys and learn how to develop and maintain masculine relationships.
Groups can be a great place to see integrated behaviors modeled by group leaders and fellow groups members.
Groups can be a great place to learn new skills and practice them in a safe environment.
Groups can provide support, encouragement, and accountability when men are challenging themselves, learning new ways of thinking and acting, and breaking life-long habits.
Groups can be flat out fun.
Every year, I train and certify more therapists and life coaches in the principles of recovery from the Nice Guy Syndrome. I train these coaches and therapists in a group setting so they can experience how I work with men in groups. Many of these No More Mr. Nice Guy Certified therapists and coaches lead groups in their local area. Scroll down this page to see if there is a therapy or support group in your area.
